SMILE Children’s Charity is delighted to announce that it has been awarded funding through the Scottish Government’s Changing Places Toilets Scotland Fund, supporting plans to install a fully accessible Changing Places Toilet at the former Canderavon site in Stonehouse, subject to the approval of its Community Asset Transfer (CAT) application.

If the CAT is successful, the funding will enable SMILE to deliver an essential facility for children, young people and adults with complex care needs, ensuring families can access respite, play and community services with dignity, safety and confidence.

Changing Places Toilets go far beyond standard accessible toilets. They provide specialist equipment, space and facilities that are vital for many families who are otherwise excluded from community spaces.

This funding represents a significant step forward in SMILE’s vision to transform Canderavon into a fully inclusive respite and family support hub serving hundreds of families across South Lanarkshire each year.

SMILE Children’s Charity is extremely hopeful of a positive decision on the Community Asset Transfer and looks forward to working with partners to deliver this vital provision for the local community.
